Air Peace has confirmed the launch of scheduled services from Lagos to four new African destinations from 1 August 2026, in what the airline describes as the most significant expansion of its regional network to date. The new services link Lagos with Douala in Cameroon, Libreville in Gabon, Bamako in Mali, and Conakry in Guinea, operated through two multi-city flight corridors that will connect West and Central Africa through the airline's Lagos hub.
The announcement was made by the airline's spokesman, Mr Efe Osifo-Whiskey, and forms part of a broader schedule enhancement that took effect domestically from 22 June 2026, including an increase in Lagos–Abuja services to seven daily return flights — up from previous frequency levels — as well as additional frequencies on Lagos–Owerri, Lagos–Asaba, Lagos–Benin, Lagos–Warri, Lagos–Enugu, Abuja–Owerri, and Abuja–Asaba routes.
How the New Routes Will Operate
The Central African corridor will serve Douala and Libreville on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Flights will depart Lagos in the morning, route through Douala to Libreville, and return to Lagos via the same two stops later the same day — a four-times-weekly multi-city service connecting two of Central Africa's most commercially significant cities.
The West African corridor will operate between Lagos, Bamako, and Conakry on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, offering three weekly return services. The combined effect of the two corridors gives Air Peace seven weekly international departures to its four new African destinations from August, a level of commitment to West and Central African connectivity that no Nigerian carrier has previously attempted at this scale.
What the Routes Mean for Lagos as a Hub
A core element of the announcement is the role of Lagos as a connecting point. Passengers arriving on the new African services will be able to continue on Air Peace's domestic network to Abuja, Port Harcourt, Enugu, Owerri, Kano, Benin, Asaba, Gombe, Ibadan, Yola, Maiduguri, and other cities — opening Nigeria's secondary airports to travellers from Cameroon, Gabon, Mali, and Guinea for the first time through a single-carrier connection.
The services also feed Air Peace's international routes. Passengers originating in Douala, Libreville, Bamako, or Conakry will be able to connect in Lagos to the airline's services to London Gatwick and to its Caribbean routes including Antigua and Barbados — providing indirect but single-airline access to the United Kingdom and the Caribbean from markets that previously had no such option without changing carriers in a third-country hub.
Fleet and Commercial Context
Air Peace confirmed the expanded operations will be delivered using its modern aircraft fleet, which includes Boeing 777 widebodies, Boeing 737 series narrowbodies — including a newly delivered 737-800NG registered 5N-CGD — and Embraer jets. The airline did not specify which aircraft types will operate the new African routes at launch, though the 737 series is the most likely candidate for the Central and West African sector lengths.
Bookings for all four new routes are open through Air Peace's website, mobile application, contact centre, and accredited travel agencies. The airline also confirmed regulatory approval has been secured to operate services to Brazil, with Lagos–São Paulo representing a potential future route that would create a direct air link between West Africa and South America operated by a Nigerian carrier for the first time.
The expansion aligns Air Peace's network with the objectives of both the African Continental Free Trade Area, which seeks to reduce barriers to intra-African commerce, and the Single African Air Transport Market, whose goal of an open African skies framework remains the most ambitious regulatory project in continental aviation. Whether the new routes achieve commercial viability will depend on demand stimulation, fare competitiveness, and the broader operating environment for Nigerian carriers, which continues to face pressure from elevated Jet A1 fuel prices and a difficult foreign exchange environment.
