The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) briefly suspended ValueJet's commercial operations on Monday, 5 September 2022, after the airline failed to complete the scheduled renewal audit for its Air Operator's Certificate within the required window.
The regulator said the suspension was administrative rather than safety-driven, stemming from outstanding documentation that had not been submitted ahead of the certificate's expiry date, and that no specific safety violation had been identified during preliminary review.
Swift Resolution
ValueJet said the delay had resulted from a backlog in processing paperwork with third-party maintenance providers and that it had already submitted the outstanding documents before the suspension was announced. The airline resumed flights within 48 hours after the NCAA confirmed the renewal audit had been completed satisfactorily.
The brief grounding nonetheless disrupted travel for passengers booked on ValueJet's Lagos-based domestic network, with the airline offering rebooking on partner carriers for those affected during the suspension period.
